Electrophotography Portraiture

It was the birth of xerox

Invented in to 1950’s, the xerographic (without water) process revolutionized the world. It’s roots were photographic.

Carbon + electricity = photography

Preserving a moment in history

This Xerox #3 camera system is a rare artifact. I maintain and preserve a set my mentor Tom Carpenter helped me obtain.

Your portrait

Will be scribed with 7,000 volts of electricity onto a selenium plate, attracting the carbon toner particles. Then, with an opposite charge I will push the carbon to fine art paper and fuse it with heat.

An original

There is only one copy of each photograph. Each unique, direct positive image has flaws inherent to the process, including the surface of the plate, the paper and deliberate manipulation of the image prior to fusing.

Book your session

Electrophotography Portrait Session – $150
Your sitting will include a minimum of two final carbon portraits on fine art paper. Please be prepared to relax and enjoy the process. You will walk away with a one-of-a-kind large-format print (roughly 11x14") on acid-free fine art paper. It's archival and will outlast you and your children if conservation-framed with protection against UV light and harmful acids. Portrait made either on outdoor deck or in ground-floor portrait studio.
